mix dis if is free to use. It is supported by nothing but goodwill, has no support desk and no promised uptime, and can change or stop at any time. These are the terms for using it, in as few words as I can manage.

the shape of it

A Discord music bot in two halves. I run the bot: the half that sits in your server, takes commands and plays audio into a voice channel. A member of your server runs a node: a program on their own computer that searches and downloads from YouTube using that person’s own account. I fetch nothing from YouTube myself, and a node serves only the servers that paired it.

That split is the point of the design. Playback in your server comes from one of your own members, from their own machine, under their own account, for their own server, which is personal use in the ordinary sense. It is also where responsibility sits.

who is responsible for what

If you run a node, your use of YouTube is yours, under Google’s terms, the same as it would be in a browser. Keep the machine and the Firefox profile yours: the node uses whatever account is signed in there. You are responsible for what your node fetches and for the servers you pair it with.

If you use the bot in a server, Discord’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines apply, and so do your server’s rules. Use it to listen together. Do not use it to distribute, archive or re-broadcast audio, to work around any access control, or to send load at YouTube or at me. Do not try to widen what a node is allowed to do: a node is scoped to the servers that paired it, and that boundary is enforced, not advisory.

A dashboard link controls playback for your server for up to two hours, for anyone who has it. Handing it on is your decision.

I keep the bot running as best I can, tell you on the privacy page exactly what it sees, and can revoke a machine or refuse a server that abuses the service. There is no other obligation on my side: no support, no guaranteed availability, no notice period.

the software

The node is copyrighted software, not open source. You may download it, run it on machines you control, for servers you are a member of, for as long as this service exists. You may not redistribute it, sell it or sell access to it, modify it, or take it apart. The bot and the service behind it are mine and are not licensed at all.

The node fetches three separate programs at first run and keeps them current: yt-dlp, Deno and ffmpeg. They are not mine and are not part of the node; each is under its own licence, which travels with it. The builds a node installs are unmodified builds from their own maintainers, served through a mirror I run so that a node does not depend on a third party’s uptime.

money

The bot is free. There is a way to leave a tip on gene.dev; doing so buys nothing and changes nothing about these terms.

no warranty

The service and the node are provided as they are. To the extent the law allows, I make no promise that they work, keep working, or suit any purpose, and I am not liable for loss arising from their use. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited.

ending it

You end it by removing the bot from your server, or by stopping and uninstalling a node. I end it by revoking a machine, refusing a server, or shutting the service down. None of these needs notice, though I will give it when I can.
